Therapists for college students near Atlanta, GA
Do you struggle with heightened anxiety and feel overwhelmed by life? When life feels overwhelming and high pressure exists to manage personal issues, I work with clients in therapy to minimize the distress and overcome obstacles in a safe and nonjudgmental environment. Since it can be scary and painful to reveal vulnerability, I strive to build a trusting therapeutic relationship in which my clients feel comfortable to explore personal experiences. The therapy sessions are tailored to each client. Treatment can be on a short or long term basis depending on the client’s needs. I specialize in helping teenagers and adults who experience persistent self-criticism, depression, anxiety, ADHD, chronic stress, OCD, and complex interpersonal relationship issues.
I appreciate that reaching out for help is not always easy. My goal is to create a space where you feel safe in expressing your feelings and fears, hopes and desires; and to help you obtain a sense of control over your life. Changes can result in unexpected and often unwelcome transitions that can provoke anxiety. This can impact relationship difficulties and other aspects of life. With a gentle and sensitive approach, I help you to feel supported and skillfully guided to manage and reduce anxiety, access hidden strengths and potential and develop new skills for living a more balanced and possibly joyous life.

I enjoy working with relationships and relational problems, self-esteem and self-hate, trauma and recovery, identity concerns (including but not limited to sexuality, diversity in gender, atheists and other types of secular individuals), and veterans. I also have worked in a VA CBOC outpatient clinic and have an extensive history of work with young adults (specifically in collegiate mental health). I utilize a collaborative approach grounded in interpersonal process. My theory of practice is guided by the needs of the client, using a mix of cognitive and psychodynamic theories alongside elements of feminist and relational theories. I have experience working within varied mental health settings, including veterans and interdisciplinary treatment teams. Lets work together and begin to figure out the answers to the questions and struggles you face. I welcome clients of all ages, all backgrounds, all identities. My practice is affirming of all genders, all sexual orientations, all ethnic identities, all religious identities, and inclusive and welcoming of all intersections therein.
I help folks with Eating Disorders and other people who want to find a positive and peaceful relationship with food, who are ready for an alternative to prescriptive diets and fads, and looking for a more sustainable solution to their eating woes: whether that physical symptoms, dysfunctional eating, negative body image, or food preoccupation. I use utilize the principles of Intuitive Eating and operate from a weight-neutral lens, meaning focus on behaviors and measurable health outcomes (both physical and psychological) vs. a weight-centric approach and over-reliance on BMI (a wildly inappropriate tool for individual assessment). Evidence-based nutrition counseling services from a license professional are offered via Telehealth or in person at my Decatur office, to folks living in Georgia who want a whole-person and collaborative approach to wellness.

You've worked so hard to get where you are. Hours and hours in the library, in the gym, in the practice studio. You care about excellence. But all that pressure you put on yourself, wanting to be perfect and for everyone to love you? It's wearing you out. Stress, anxiety, constant thoughts zooming through your head. I'm glad you're here, and I hope I can help. I've been helping people just like you for almost two decades. People who have been super successful but also super stressed, anxious and sad. I am committed to treating the whole you, which means that an important step to feeling better is to look at all the parts of your life (physical health, relationships, work, self-care) and how those parts of your life are affecting how you feel and how you act. When you feel well emotionally, physically, and socially; your quality of life can genuinely improve. I hope to work with any of you who feel "stuck" in your lives; who are struggling with anxiety, stress, perfectionism, or body image. I have a particular specialization in working with athletes of all levels; professional, collegiate, and recreational. As a former collegiate volleyball and softball player, I understand that athletic performance incorporates so much more than physical training. I work with athletes who are struggling with anxiety, confidence, focus, or team dynamics. Additionally, I see athletes after they have experienced some major event in their athletic lives; such as acute and chronic injuries, pain, illness, or physical changes with aging. Athletes also struggle frequently with eating concerns and body image. Therapy is teamwork--we will develop a plan and goals that work for you to live your healthiest life!

Do you find yourself constantly wondering if you measure up? Have passing thoughts that if people knew the real you they wouldn't hire you, be your friend, respect or admire you? Holding yourself to a high standard provides some amazing benefits AND it can really hold you back if it's an all-or-nothing situation. When your worth and value are on the line in every interaction, you live in a constant state of anxiety and have a hard time resting or enjoying your down time. When I was in my twenties, I was anxious and depressed but I never would've used those labels at the time. My life was great on paper – I thought I was happy because I thought should be happy. Then, in the moments when I noticed that I wasn’t feeling great, I beat myself up for not being positive and upbeat or grateful enough for everything I had. I thought that just feeling kinda sad and worried most of the time was normal and inevitable. The truth is, it is pretty normal, but it's not inevitable. In fact, part of what drives me to help people is that the level of unease I felt seems so common. I strongly suspect that there are people suffering needlessly who don't know that there are ways to feel better. One thing to know up front: working with me is weird! My clients who've been to therapy before or seen it on TV are often surprised by a few things about my practice. There's homework, and we'll both be writing things down in sessions. We won't just talk about the things you think and feel, we'll work together to change them for the better.
I specialize in working with college and graduate students, young professionals, and couples, empowering them to develop skills to manage anxiety, stress, relationship challenges, and explore their self-identity. I also work with first generation and children of immigrants and am committed to maintaining a culturally-informed practice that honors the different ways that people experience and think of their identity. Navigating the complexities of life can be challenging, especially when you’re dealing with things like anxiety, relationship issues, and major life transitions. Maybe you're struggling with the pressure of classes, or with adjusting to your new environment and building relationships. Or you might feel like you’re always anxious about getting things right or not knowing what's going to happen, and worry is becoming exhausting. Perhaps you're at a point where you want to learn more about the impact of your cultural background on your identity and explore the experiences you've had. Going to therapy can be a courageous step towards personal growth and self-reflection to develop the tools needed to manage symptoms and align ourselves more with our goals. Whether you're navigating major life transitions, managing work-related stress, or facing challenges in your relationships, my practice provides a supportive space to help you build resilience. By incorporating evidence-based interventions such as Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy with compassion and mindfulness focused models, I provide a non-judgemental and empathetic environment in my work with clients. For couples therapy, I utilize the Gottman method to help couples improve their relationships. I am licensed in the state of Georgia as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC015213). I earned my M.S. in Counseling with an emphasis on Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Johns Hopkins University, and a B.A. in Psychology, English, & Classical Studies from Emory University. I provide both in-person and virtual sessions to make therapy accessible and convenient for clients in the Decatur area and beyond. Whenever you’re ready to take a step towards therapy, I would be happy to speak with you and answer any questions you may have about the therapeutic process over an initial consultation. I am a therapist who integrates cognitive-behavioral techniques and systems theories into my clinical treatment of children, adolescents, and college students. Because I greatly value interdisciplinary work, I strive for successful collaboration with social workers, physicians, and educators in the provision of holistic behavioral healthcare for my clients. I have additional specialized training in trauma & behavioral sleep medicine. Being nationally certified in TF-CBT, I work with victims of childhood abuse, providing evidence-based treatment to promote healing & recovery. In my behavioral sleep medicine work I provide interventions to reduce sleep disturbances & improve daytime functioning for my clients. Further, in my work with college students I provide cognitive-behavioral interventions to address mood and anxiety symptoms, improve academic functioning, and enhance coping skills. I often operate from a feministic perspective, with the goals of empowerment, increasing self-esteem, and healthy boundary development.

I am a registered dietitian that specializes in eating disorders and is very passionate about helping my clients find food freedom. Together we will be able to work together to improve your relationship with food and your body. There is so much confusing nutrition information out there these days, so let me help you debunk the myths and create a relationship with food that fits YOU. In working with my clients, I strive to help them find a healthy balance in every part of their lives; whether it is work, relationships or health. Finding a balance is important. Balance does not allow one area in our lives to become too extreme, pulling all of our focus. In session we will develop personalized strategies that can help you feel more in control, making your concerns feel more manageable. Once we work together to find that balance in your daily life, you are able to live at your happy, healthy baseline. You begin to thrive.
If you are new to therapy or if you've met with a therapist before, I commend you for recognizing your need for supporting yourself right now. If you are experiencing problems related to drugs and alcohol, anxiety, depression, anger, or stress management, I feel confident that I can help you to deal with these issues effectively. I take a mindfulness-based approach in working with clients, which incorporates a main focus of learning to accept and be with whatever is happening in the present moment. This can help create clarity and present a reasonable solution to challenges. If you are interested in working with me, please reach out to me at anytime.
