Hi there! My name is Julie (she/her), and I am a therapist with a clinical social work background. I work with folks who have a variety of concerns. Recently, I've had several college students who want to work through depression or anxiety while they figure out various paths they are struggling with. Hi. I am a clinical social worker/therapist who has been working in the mental health field for over 25 years. Throughout this time, I have worked in a variety of settings with children, teens, young adults, parents and families. I have specialized in working with individuals who have experienced trauma, including but not limited to sexual abuse, sexual assault, childhood neglect, physical abuse, partner abuse, and traumatic grief and loss. In addition to my trauma focused work, I really enjoy working with college-aged students and the many wonders and struggles that come along with this time and age. I work with students who are experiencing a range of issues from anxiety, depression, questioning identity, family conflict, difficulty with the adjustment to school, social struggles and/or in need of future and career guidance. I am trained in a variety of techniques and pull from each of them to provide an individualized approach that is collaborative as well as strength based for each client. I look forward to connecting and discussing whether we would be a good fit for working together. Please note that at this time, I primarily have day time appointments available and offer sessions via telehealth.

I see College and Graduate students at all year levels. I work with individuals and couples ( married and unmarried, who are dissatisfied with or want to improve their partnerships). Even the best parts of your academic career -- having more control over your own life, living with new people, getting to know a new city, forming new relationships, coming out to yourself or others, learning and pursuing what interests and inspires you -- can create stress. Relating to your family may be complicated, particularly if there have been difficulties at home. Loss, divorce, illness, abuse or substance abuse may factor into your story. You may be the first person in your family to go to college or beyond. You may have a chronic medical condition, visible or invisible to others. Figuring out who you want to be and what you have to work with may be unnecessarily burdensome to do all by yourself. When you hit a bump in the road, psychotherapy can help you problem solve, understand yourself better and come up with new strategies to move forward. Getting to know yourself better can be an important part of your education. Getting a handle on anxiety and/or depression can be crucial to making life work for you. Individual or couple psychotherapy can sychotherapy, free up energy to pursue life goals and improve relationships. I have worked with college and graduate students, as individuals and in couples, for over 25 years both in a University Counseling Center and in my private practice. I also have trained other professionals to work with students Please see my website or Psychology today profile for more information about my practice with couples and individual adults. https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/therapists/roberta-caplan-waltham-ma/113684 I offer a free telephone screening to see if working with me might meet your current needs. I accept BC/BS PPO plans (not HMO) and can provide documentation you would need for out-of-network benefits for other plans.

Much of my work focuses on supporting clients as they navigate identity, relationships, and life transitions. While I welcome individuals from all backgrounds, I have particular experience supporting Young Adults and Asian American clients, especially those balancing multicultural identities, family expectations, and cultural values. My therapeutic approach has been informed by work in emergency units, inpatient settings, and college campuses. I focus on meeting you where you are and creating a space that feels safe, supportive, and collaborative. Together, we identify goals that matter to you and explore patterns or concerns you’d like to understand more deeply or approach differently. I value open communication and believe growth often happens when we gently step into discomfort. I integrate evidence-based approaches while staying mindful of how your unique experiences have shaped your perspective and sense of self. Sessions are intentional and structured, with an emphasis on insight, self-understanding, and meaningful change.

I am the former psychotherapist at Harvard University, dedicated to Harvard Law School. After leaving, during the early pandemic, I appreciated the effectiveness of remote therapy and the convenience for my clients in the academic field – whether students or faculty. I have a fully remote practice and welcome your contacting me for a brief conversation so that we can see if it might be a good fit to work together. I have a lot of experience helping students in the fields of not only law, but also medicine, business, education, STEM and divinity, cope with the challenges of building their careers and professional vision in the context of both personal and professional challenges. I am also the former founder and director (for 20 years) of an adoption agency. I have a keen appreciation for the interests and challenges of members of the adoption triad. In over 30 years of clinical work, one of the key lessons I’ve learned is how important it is for clients to feel heard. Whether navigating challenging personal, academic or professional dilemmas, feeling understood is the first step in clients beginning to contemplate their available choices. I draw from a wide clinical knowledge base and broad training (family systems, CBT and other modalities) to help clients achieve their goals. Along the way, my hope is that clients feel increased personal power, greater confidence and ease as well as expanded capacity to connect with others.. I work remotely through video-conferencing, using a HIPAA compliant platform. Please feel free to email me to request a brief initial conversation so that we might see if it feels like a good fit to work together toward achieving your goals.

I believe that how we interact with others in the present often grew out of lessons learned earlier in life. Sometimes, people use strategies to cope with situations that once made sense but are no longer effective or useful. I also believe that everyone has strengths that can help guide decisions and behaviors in the present. I believe in a collaborative approach to therapy, where we become travelers on your journey; we look at concerns, explore their origins and feelings that arise, and discuss how to view and handle situations here and now. I blend developmental and clinical approaches to help individuals understand difficulties within the context of typical stages of life. Treatment is geared to individual needs, and I draw on a variety of theoretical orientations (e.g., Psychodynamic, CBT, and Humanistic therapies). I work with individuals from a wide range of ethnic, cultural, and economic backgrounds, and I have a special interest in gender identity and sexual orientation (LGBTQIA+). I have helped clients with concerns including, among several others, depression, anxiety, trauma/PTSD, and life transitions. Please visit my website for more information: www.everbreezepsych.com
