Hi! I'm Kara (she/her) - a queer and queer-affirming Clinical Social Worker. I specialize in sex and relationship therapy, but also happily see individual clients. I practiced as a Registered Nurse for over 10 years, and then switched careers to Social Work. I promote Health at Every Size, am gender-affirming, queer-knowledgeable, and polyamory friendly. I work a lot with folks who have health issues. I am supportive of spiritual practices, and am interested in the intersection of religion/spirituality and sexuality. I am in the process of becoming a certified sex therapist. I invite you to reach out to me for a complimentary 15-minute consult to assess if we are the right fit for each other.
My fundamental belief is that people have the strength within them to make the changes they desire, if only they could access it. I work with each person in a tailored and individualized way, to capitalize on their strengths and harness their hidden resilience. I have spent my career working with people across the lifespan coping with various life stressors, achieving balance with competing demands, and specific mental health conditions including anxiety. The best way to get to the destination is to start the journey. For more details, please go to: www.weksnerpsychotherapy.com
I have over 21 years experience working with adults with trauma, co-dependency, CPTSD, depression, anxiety, low self esteem and other issues. I combine active listening, creativity, humor, patience and empathy. I am eclectic in my approaches and do not believe therapy is a one size fits all and try to adapt my approaches to the needs of my clients. I believe if I can help you get through the pain and confusion of your feelings, provide tools to teach you how to ground yourself, relax, soothe and regulate your emotions: you may feel much better and more hopeful. I will not just sit and nod my head. We will be a team working together on helping you live your best life
In my practice, I integrate counseling, art therapy, and mindfulness to offer a holistic approach to mental health and wellness. My goal is to create a welcoming, supportive and judgment-free space where you can feel comfortable processing emotions, managing stress, and working through challenges. Whether you're navigating academics, relationships, identity, or life transitions, we'll work together to help you recognize your strengths and move toward your personal and emotional goals.
I have experience helping people overcome obstacles around executive dysfunction (having a hard time keeping or remembering tasks and appointments, turning in assignments in full, and overall managing daily expectations and obligations), adjusting to new life transitions, and managing anxiety and depression symptoms. I use a variety of methods to introduce clients to the sometimes uncomfortable part of therapy and accountability.
You often wish you felt better about yourself, didn't get so easily overwhelmed, and could handle conflict but aren’t even sure where to start. You’ve found yourself questioning if you should talk to someone. You’ve come to the right place! College life is full of changes and challenges. Even if they are good, changes can sometimes be more than we have bargained for and create a lot of stress and anxiety. Through their work with me, my clients have experienced feeling less overwhelmed by emotions, found effective ways to handle conflict with others (like roommates and partners), felt more connected/present, and gained more confidence in themselves. My clients describe me as welcoming, witty, direct, knowledgeable, and relatable. My style of therapy is very collaborative and conversational as I share tools that you can use in between our sessions. You can reduce the amount of anxiety you experience. At the very least, I can help you manage it in a different way that is less disruptive to you, your relationships, and achieving what you want to in school.

Maybe what aches most is not the change itself, but the fear that someone you love is slipping out of reach — even if that someone is you. Everything feels different, yet somehow the same. One minute you are putting on pajamas, and the next you are spiraling because it is the first moment of quiet you have had all day. There is this gut feeling that your heart can no longer be bound with band-aids, but soul-searching is a lot before the alarm goes off tomorrow. You do not have to make sense of it all alone at midnight — that is what I am here for. I support clients ages 13–30s through this season of becoming — identity, relationships, independence, pressure, purpose, and transition. With evidence-based care and expressive arts, we use guided reflection, practical strategies, and creative exploration to turn overwhelm into clarity, awaken new direction, and find the light at the end of the tunnel. There is no perfect place to begin. Arrive as you are! I offer virtual therapy sessions for clients located in California, Indiana, New Jersey, and Massachusetts. I am available for a free 15-minute phone consultation, and I invite you to reach out. I look forward to connecting.
Hello! My overarching approach is Relationship-Based Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy. I find that integrating CBT with key therapeutic relationship factors such as validation, empathy, unconditional positive regard, and genuineness produce the best outcomes. When appropriate, I also utilize such approaches as mindfulness, acceptance, and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) skills. My goal is to not only reduce the distress from your presenting problems but also improve your overall well-being and experience personal growth across many facets of life. I have specialized in treating adolescents and adults in various settings, from inpatient psychiatric hospitals to community outpatient clinics. I can treat significant mental health issues like PTSD and chronic depression, while also providing support for significant life adjustments like transitioning to college and high school related stressors. I’m originally from central MA and a psychology professor at Assumption University where I teach graduate students to be CBT counselors. Please feel free to explore my website to learn more about me and the services I provide. I pride myself in establishing a strong therapeutic relationship while working towards goals that are important to you!
Are you struggling in school, and wondering if you have an un-diagnosed learning disability? Do you need an updated evaluation to confirm a previous learning disability diagnosis? Are you concerned about inattention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity? Have you been in therapy for a long time, but are struggling to see results and improvement? A psychological assessment can help you get the support you need. I specialize in psychological evaluations. These evaluations help clients understand their learning style and cognitive strengths and weaknesses; assess for ADHD or executive functioning deficits; evaluate for the presence of a learning disability; and/or gain a better understanding of mental health symptoms, functioning and diagnosis. As part of these evaluations, I generate a comprehensive report that provides a clear diagnosis, and offers recommendations for the academic environment and/or ongoing treatment.
I am a licensed psychotherapist utilizing holistic, creative modalities to provide healing that is effective for children, adolescents and adults. I utilize two main modalities in my practice: Expressive Arts Therapy and Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT). Through these modalities, I empower people who are having difficulty with depression and anxiety due to transitions, low self-esteem, stress, chronic pain, relationship issues, work/school obligations, trauma and grief. Expressive Arts Therapy is an effective way to process difficult emotions by making meaning through the exploration of our creative works. EFT is part of a holistic mind-body movement that works by finding the negative charges in our bodies while simultaneously sending calming signals to decrease our physical and emotional responses. My clients describe me as relatable, comforting, and validating. With compassion and acceptance, I welcome you to join me just as you are.

Sometimes, when people come to therapy, they’re looking for a solution to something that feels urgent or overwhelming. At other times, people can't put words to what's wrong, but they know that something that doesn't feel right. I have a few openings (in-person or virtually). Contact me for a 25-minute free consultation to see if my style would be helpful for you - or to possibly refer you to a colleague. there are a number of credentials i could share about myself and ways you might decide if i'm the right therapist for you, but honestly, between you and me, what matters is that i love this work and i believe in this work. i feel deeply humbled to hold people's stories and hearts for a living. the trust that this work requires is no small thing, and i never take that lightly. in my clinical practice, i use theories rooted in an anti-racist, queer liberation, harm reduction, and body-neutral framework. i feel most drawn to this work through an attachment-focused analytical frame. we have all been harmed in relationships, and i believe our healing must also exist in relationships. i know we cannot look at one's personal frame without understanding the systemic and cultural impact that intersectionality has had on one's own experience. i have committed to my clinical work always evolving, and we will both teach each other what comes next. i can't promise a safe place, but i can promise an accountable one. i will create the container, i will show up for rupture, and together we will build a foundation of trust to help you heal, grow, challenge, and shift the things that brought you here. i received my master's in clinical social work from silberman school of social work at hunter college in new york city. after graduation, i worked in community mental health, supporting young mothers on their journey towards recovery from opioid-based addictions. i then joined a group practice where i've worked for many years, supporting folks to heal complicated relationships with food, their bodies, their boundaries, their gender, and their sexuality. i believe i am a partner in this work with you, and as people change, heal, and move forward in their lives, i feel profoundly impacted to bear witness and be a part of your story. it is miraculous. finding the right therapist is a process: trust yourself, explore, ask hard questions. we work for you and with you. i am a white, queer, abolitionist, non-binary, dyslexic, jewish, body-liberatory therapist, and most importantly, a client. the only thing i ask of the folks i work with is a commitment to show up, and the rest we will figure out together.
Measured Wellness is an evidence-based, outcomes-driven outpatient psychiatry clinic, staffed by Harvard-trained clinicians, offering Spravato (intranasal esketamine) and intramuscular ketamine injections for those who suffer with depression that has not responded to traditional antidepressants. The clinic was founded, and is currently run, by Dr. Brian W. Boyle, faculty in the McLean Hospital Neurotherapeutics Department and graduate of the MGH/McLean psychiatry residency program. Care begins with a thoughtful consultation to assess candidacy for these treatments.
My passion is working with people who are beginning to realize they feel exhausted and overwhelmed, and think it may be because of patterns of people-pleasing and perfectionism. They are beginning to realize that their drive to be high-achieving might be fueled by low self-esteem. They are performing well in many aspects of life, but they still don’t feel good enough. I also have a passion for working with adult children of emotionally dysfunctional families, who realize that current relationship stress may stem from the stressful family environment they grew up in.
I work with people dealing with depression, anxiety, academic and career issues, recovery from trauma/abuse or neglect, relationship conflicts, or identity/life transitions. My approach is collaborative, empathic, and interactive, creating an environment in which to help you better understand, relate to, and positively address ways in which you might feel stuck. I have specialized training in treating complex trauma. Though I draw from humanistic, psychodynamic, and DBT modalities, in essence my approach is integrative, person-centered, and strength-based. My training experiences include Harvard-affiliated McLean Hospital and the Trauma Center at Justice Resource Institute. I completed a post doctoral fellowship at the Brookline Center for Community Mental Health. Please feel free to email or call me with questions. I look forward to connecting with you. I am an out of network therapist, I am happy to help you or parent submit to your insurance for partial reimbursement.
