Therapists for college students near University of Minnesota
Hey! My name is Elena, I use she/her pronouns, and I work with rebels, rioters, and revolutionaries. My practice is one that centers and celebrates authenticity, courageous exploration, and a collaborative, therapeutic relationship. In practice, this can look like taking the time to build trust and connection, pulling from a wide variety of modalities, and curiosity and silliness when needed (which I believe is often!) I have seen many therapists feel the need to rush into “fixing”; in my work, there is no rush and there is no “fixing”. Together, we will sit in the messy experience of being human; exploring and learning from our pain while uplifting and celebrating the joys. We will co-create your therapy experience, making it into whatever you need it to be in order to feel as safe as possible. I bring an anti-oppression and decolonization lens to the work of therapy, as this helps to ensure that I do my best to mitigate the harmful impacts of these systemic issues in the healing space. I will certainly make mistakes. I hope you do, too! These are opportunities for both of us to practice collective learning, unlearning, and healing. I believe that therapy is community. We may share certain identities and there will be those we do not share, yet it remains a community. Let's be in joyous community together!
Live well, love well, work well. Going to therapy is something everyone can benefit from. When you are facing life’s troubles, therapy assists you in effectively addressing those troubles; transforming pain into joy, conflict into peace, and loneliness into love. Therapy helps people live well, love well, and work well. Whatever state you find yourself in, you will find a caring listener, a resource for finding your strength in a comforting space. Starting therapy can feel uncomfortable, especially if you're used to handling things on your own. I want to set a tone that feels genuine, relaxed, and goal oriented where we develop real solutions to your real problems. I have experience working with adolescents and adults facing stress, relationship problems, anger, and major life changes. I work especially well with someone who may feel stuck, isolated, overwhelmed, or perhaps even unsure where to begin? Therapy with me is focused on helping you move forward.
I provide individual therapy to adolescents and young adults. My approach centers building connections, offering compassion and staying curious about who you are in the past, present and future; helping you become the author to your own story. I want you to feel seen and heard throughout our time working together. Although I welcome working with a range of client concerns, my areas of special focus include navigating disordered eating, eating disorders, body image, shame and perfectionism, identity exploration and anxiety management. I practice from an intersectional feminist, holistic style approach. Many of my clients are in the early stages of exploring their relationship with identity, food and their bodies. Like all of us, I am a work-in-progress but I constantly strive to be culturally and gender affirming and responsive in my daily practice. Prior to becoming a licensed therapist, I worked in community based non-profits throughout Wisconsin and Minnesota. I remain passionate about advocating and supporting youth and families during their healing and growth journeys, as well as promoting access to care. I have helped people navigate the various stages of life to improve their overall mental health. I am a strong believer in meeting those I serve where they are. I utilize a variety of techniques, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused CBT, Person-Centered Therapy, narrative therapy, stress management, family therapy, couples therapy, mood management, anxiety reduction, empowerment techniques, and work/life balance interventions. Wellness is the act of practicing healthy habits on a daily basis to attain better outcomes. Thriving instead of just surviving. It is an honor to be a support to you.
As a queer therapist, I believe there is no one “right way” to live our lives. This is the same for therapy, there is no “right way.” I believe we all have the power to harness our strengths and find the path that gives us the most meaning and purpose. Clients are the experts in their own lives – each person has the tools and skills to solve their problems, though sometimes may need some outside help to find those tools and learn those skills. Together we can create a therapeutic alliance that is conducive towards self-discovery, growth, and fulfilling your potential while honoring your history, resiliency, values, and beliefs. I completed my Masters in Social Work at Loyola University Chicago. I am working towards being a Certified Sex Therapist (CST) through the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists (AASECT). I specialize in working with the LGBTQ+ community, gender diverse, the consensual non-monogamy (CNM) community, and I am kink/BDSM-affirming.

Feeling our feelings is sometimes uncomfortable, so I believe in collaborating with you to help you remember your wise, resilient self is safe. My special interests include ADHD, AUDHD, anxiety, Intuitive Eating, life transitions, fat liberation, and somatic work. I practice therapy from a decolonized lens. Are you looking for someone to connect to who will listen, empathize, and provide non-judgmental feedback? Are you someone who struggles with emotional expression, anger, and thinks therapy is "not for you"? Are you adjusting to college life and need a bit of support through the transition? I can help. I am a compassionate, genuine, non-judgmental therapist. I focus on creating a safe space in which each individual feels heard and understood while promoting awareness, growth, and change. I draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) principles as well as have specialized training in Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), a trauma-based therapy approach. It can be so intimidating to take the first step of reaching out to a therapist for support. I get it, I've been there myself, and trust me, it's worth it. When you contact me, I promise to provide a warm and professional consultation to help you decide if I can meet your needs and if we would be a good fit to work together.
College and young adult years can be both exciting and overwhelming. Many students and young adults find themselves managing anxiety, depression, or grief while also trying to keep up with academic demands, relationships, work, and expectations from family or themselves. Feeling stressed, burned out, unmotivated, or emotionally drained does not mean you are failing — it means you are human and navigating a lot at once. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with a Master of Arts in Professional Counseling. I work with college students, young adults, and adolescents using a client-centered, goal-oriented approach. Therapy is a collaborative process where we focus on what feels most pressing for you and develop practical strategies to help you cope more effectively with stress, emotions, and life transitions. I support individuals experiencing: * Anxiety and depression related to academic pressure, performance stress, and major life changes * Grief and loss, including losses that occur during college or early adulthood * Emotional overwhelm, burnout, difficulty with focus, and feeling “stuck” or disconnected * Relationship and family stress, especially as roles, independence, and boundaries shift * Autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, and behavioral concerns in adolescents and young adults I use evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy, and stress-reduction techniques to help clients build coping skills, improve emotional regulation, and gain clarity during challenging seasons. Therapy should feel supportive, nonjudgmental, and empowering. Whether this is your first time seeking counseling or you are returning to therapy, my goal is to create a space where you feel heard, understood, and supported as you work toward balance, confidence, and improved well-being.
Charlie Health is a virtual behavioral health program for adolescents and young adults with moderate or severe mental health concerns or co-occurring substance use or eating disorders. Designed to meet the needs of those who require more than weekly therapy, our program combines curated group therapy, individual therapy, and family therapy into personalized treatment programs. We are helping to serve those who are in crisis, or have been historically underserved, by eliminating the most significant treatment barriers: geographical and financial access. We work with nearly all commercial insurance nationwide and have no waitlist, thereby helping people access quality, evidence-based care regardless of insurance, location, or other barriers.
I’m Rachel Khan, a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with over 10 years of experience as a Registered Nurse, much of that time spent in the Emergency Department caring for people facing both medical and mental health challenges. My background has shaped a calm, grounded approach to care. I strive to create a safe, respectful space where you feel heard, understood, and supported. Building trust and open communication is important to me, and I believe your experiences and story truly matter. When working together, you can expect a collaborative and down-to-earth approach. I value clear communication and believe treatment works best when we make decisions together. My goal is to help you feel comfortable, informed, and confident as we navigate your care as a team. Our work typically begins with listening closely to your concerns and completing a thoughtful, thorough assessment. From there, I’ll explain treatment options clearly and create a personalized plan that fits your needs and goals. Whether we’re addressing immediate concerns or long-term wellness, my focus is helping you feel empowered every step of the way.
With over 20 years of experience, Stacy seamlessly blends the rich traditions of therapy with innovative techniques. As a Clinical Social Worker, her advanced credentials in Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), Mental Emotional Release® (MER), and Hypnosis mark her as a leading Change Navigator™, especially for college students navigating significant life transitions. Stacy holds a powerful belief: each individual, especially during their transformative college years, has the capability to 'reprogram' their mind, much like software updates. This conviction, shaped by countless student interactions, showcases the adaptability and resilience inherent in young adults. Stacy delves deep, identifying old mindsets and behaviors, which often take root during early years, and can impact academic performance and emotional wellbeing. Her approach is a harmonious fusion of science and empathy. By combining the communication skills of NLP, the emotional release of MER, and the transformative states of Hypnosis, Stacy offers students a holistic therapeutic journey. While she employs time-tested methods, she also ensures her strategies remain current and relatable. Many of the students Stacy connects with share common experiences: they are navigating the challenges of young adulthood, adjusting to college life, and aiming to define their future paths. She sees therapy, coaching, and consulting as interlinked, allowing her to tailor her interventions to each student's unique story. Stacy believes in collaboration; students set their course, and she serves as their trusted guide. Together, they work to ensure that every student embarks on a journey of discovery, resilience, and positive transformation.
