Hi, I’m Ellen, a therapist with Next Level Mental Health Counseling. I offer a warm, grounded, and culturally responsive space for teens and adults navigating anxiety, stress, relationships, identity, family dynamics, and life transitions. Together, we’ll slow down, better understand what you’re experiencing, and build the confidence to make choices that feel more intentional and authentic to who you are. My goal is for you to feel genuinely understood, gently challenged, and supported as you grow. I currently offer virtual therapy to clients across New York State.
Hi & welcome. My college years were a time of great learning and friendship, and also, of significant loss. This led to my own passion of supporting young adults facing challenges and grief during this important life stage. I have extensive experience working with grieving individuals - children, teens, college students, and adults - including after incidents of mass trauma. My practice (CT/NY) also provides support to those struggling with anxiety, depression, PTSD, family and relationship difficulties, academic and career challenges, self-doubt, and stressors due to caregiving. My therapeutic approach is eclectic and results-oriented and incorporates elements of psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness, and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT). I also value the role of creative expression and appreciate how art, play, and narrative therapies impact healing. I value each client as unique and resilient. I offer compassion, warmth, and humor as we collaborate to work towards building on your strengths, increasing your coping skills, and creating the changes you hope to see. We're a team and we got this!

As a therapist, I focus on creating a safe, welcoming space where you can be yourself and work through life’s challenges at your own pace. I have a background in supporting clients through a range of challenges, including but not limited to anxiety, depression, grief, life transitions, relationship difficulties, and trauma. When I’m not working, you’ll find me petting my cats (Avo & Loki), getting out in nature, being with loved ones, or getting lost in an art project. As a therapist, I tailor sessions to meet the unique needs of each client. In sessions, I focus on creating a good vibe while helping to explore strategies to help you cope or work toward your goals. I am part of a therapy practice called Resolute Mental Health, which has a dedicated team available to help with insurance and administrative support. We also offer psychiatry services at Resolute if a referral is needed! Please feel free to reach out if you would like to work together :)
Perhaps you're struggling with a significant life difficulty, or perhaps things are going ok, but you feel that something is missing. As you have come to a point that you have considered to make a change, whether it be a change in yourself, your relationship with others, or another area of your life, it is important to enter into a therapeutic relationship characterized by safety, trust, and professionalism. It's a privilege to be entrusted with your emotional well-being.
Every person is unique, each with their own narratives and perspectives. I subscribe to the belief that a new therapy is constructed for each person I work with. From the outset of treatment on through a process of self-discovery— challenging circumstances, past traumas, and negative belief structures lay the groundwork for seeds of strength and growth. All individuals possess the capacity to change their lives and I will work with you to process adversity and conflict into resilience and peace. I like to tailor my method to the person sitting across from me, though I do specialize in an approach which encompasses psychodynamic perspectives and behavioral techniques. These tend to help clients explore unconscious patterns and enactments while offering practical tools for immediate relief from issues such as anger, grief, depression, and anxiety. In treatment, I am a human first and a therapist second. I am committed to providing a safe, supportive environment for you to explore the vulnerabilities which lie beneath anxious manifestations. I am warm, curious, direct, and I bring a sense of humor to discussions focused around how you see your multifaceted self in the myriad roles you inhabit.
My passion is helping people improve their relationships and gain a deeper understanding of themselves. I enjoy working with people who are curious about how they experience the world, and who are facing challenges with major life transitions, relationships, creativity, and gender/sexuality. My approach to treatment is warm and eclectic. Therapy is a space to be curious and challenge yourself without judgment. I hope to engage you in an exploratory process to get to the root of what has been troubling you. People often find themselves caught in longstanding, unconscious patterns that show up in many areas of their lives. By working together to identify what these patterns are and how they do or don't serve you, we can create more space in your life for freedom and choice to live as you desire. Good therapy is most of all about a good fit between you and your therapist. I believe you can best gauge our fit by meeting with me, and so I offer a free 15-minute consultation for you to get a feel for how I work, and to bring forth your questions and concerns. I look forward to getting started!
I seek to help people manage the challenges they are facing and make real changes in their lives. In our work together, we will set goals, build a deeper understanding of maladaptive patterns, and learn more ways to manage the stress in your life. My specialty areas include anxiety, depression, life transitions, relationships, and parenting. I am a licensed clinical psychologist with specialized training in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). I offer individual, couples, and family therapy to adults and children of all ages. Convenient evening and weekend appointments are available to accommodate your schedule. I graduated from Columbia University with a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology and trained at NYU Child Study Center, Columbia University Medical Center and New York State Psychiatric Institute. I completed a postdoctoral fellowship at New York Presbyterian-Westchester, where I gained further expertise in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy for the treatment of depression and anxiety. I strive to maintain a warm and non-judgmental stance in therapy. I believe strongly in the collaborative process and will work actively with you to help achieve your therapeutic goals. I am happy to speak with you about any questions or concerns you may have about beginning therapy.

Have you arrived at a point in your life where carrying so much emotional and mental weight is becoming significant in your life? These challenges can present as feeling stuck and/or experiencing depression, anxiety & more. I believe arriving to Self can happen by showing up completely through the internal work that focuses on awareness, connection, mindfulness, ancestral wisdom, and community. I work with individuals seeking alignment who are open to an integrative approach to therapy. Our partnership explores a deeper understanding of yourself and your experiences. Your unique story is approached with the desired goals and changes that can bring balance into your life. I offer a culturally humble and holistic approach along with evidence-based modalities as well as holistic modalities (teachings from Yoga, Reiki, and plant medicine). Therapy can be a powerful way to help you delve into the deep, inner work that helps one develop awareness of intergenerational patterns and traumas that may keep you stuck in the past and struggling to thrive in the present. We are often engaging in life through the means that we have been taught by all of those who have come before us. Life has become a perpetual cycle where bliss, peace, harmony, and all of the other facets that make life worth living seem to escape us more and more. Instead, we are trapped in depression, anxiety, distrust, judgment and more often than not our physical temples are suffering. Collectively, a shift in perception is needed. This starts with the individual. Traditional integrative psychotherapy infused with an array of healing modalities intuitively tailored to your specific needs. The sessions can include Kundalini yoga and Meditation, Energetic Clearing, Light Language, Shadow Work Healing, Ancestral Clearing, Womb Activation Healing & Cosmic Coding. If you do not have self –awareness; if you do not bask in your own love, if you are running on autopilot and have no INNERstanding- the world around you will reflect this. Your life is your classroom it is perfectly woven to bring you back to you. No exceptions. Take the time to be in relationship with self and know that all else will follow.
Let’s be honest, going to therapy can be a little intimidating. I know what you are thinking, “what would speaking to a shrink do for me? I have so much on my mind, it will take more than a few sessions to unleash everything.” Well…I got time AND passion. I believe that as human beings living in our present society, we are conditioned to put our needs aside and we frequently forget how to take care of ourselves. As your therapist, I am strongly devoted to assisting you in tackling life challenges, managing problems, and coming out stronger than ever because YOU are capable. My approach to therapy is to use a strength based perspective, CBT and create an unapologetic space for my client. I want my client to feel they don't need to sugar coat anything in sessions because I truly believe transparency will open up my client's full potential to self-discovery and personal growth. I know taking this next step is scary AND brave. Imagine yourself opening up to possibilities you only dreamt of and finally being in control over your life and happiness. Let's work together to build that dream by tackling those negative thought distortions and create new perspectives in order to create your new reality.
Ms. Shilpa Shah, LMHC the Clinical Director and Founder of Woodrose Counseling. She is a bilingual licensed mental health counselor fluent in Gujarati and first generation South Asian American. Her experience working with adults from diverse backgrounds and age groups in community-based and outpatient settings informs her culturally sensitive approach to treatment. Ms. Shah believes that therapy is an opportunity to explore our struggles in the context of our past experiences and patterns while in a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental space and developing more effective ways of navigating them. Her philosophy is that therapy is a collaborative place for finding support in healing, developing self-awareness and working towards your goals. She utilizes an eclectic approach drawing from psychodynamic, person-centered, and cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT). Therapy is a collaborative process providing an opportunity to bring awareness to how past experiences are affecting current struggles. In our sessions together, we will work towards identifying your goals and meeting your needs while working on healing, developing self-awareness, and practicing self-compassion. I will provide a safe space for you to feel emotionally supported while also helping you challenge unhelpful patterns in order work towards change.
