My goal is to support clients in becoming the best version of themselves. I see therapy as a tool to support and motivate clients in taking control of their lives. I believe that therapy is truly for everyone- you do not need to have a major problem to start therapy. Therapy can be a place where we discuss the good things happening in your life! However, starting therapy is a vulnerable process. I am here to support your experiences and to provide you with the tools to better cope with situations. I focus on exploring clients' inner voices and beliefs that dictate how we interpret situations. I work with young adults and adults. I also feel passionately about helping young adults feel empowered and find happiness and success in their careers and the corporate world. As a Jewish therapist, I bring a strong appreciation for how culture, identity, and personal values shape the way we move through the world. I aim to create a warm, nonjudgmental space where you can show up fully as yourself—whether you’re navigating school stress, relationships, family dynamics, or figuring out who you want to be in this next chapter of your life.

My empathic approach empowers clients to lead healthier lives. As we work together, I will focus on you and your unique needs. We will collaborate to set goals that will help you move forward in your life. Starting with your existing strengths, we will then develop the tools needed to meet those goals. My therapeutic work is informed by my years of supporting people struggling with substance use, domestic violence, and anger management. I also enjoy working with immigrants and first-generation Americans as they navigate being part of two unique and sometimes conflicting cultures. Utilizing culturally informed CBT, along with DBT tools, I am passionate about helping individuals develop more meaningful relationships.
Welcome to Amethyst Counseling Services I'm Rachel Lorenzo-Ramirez, a bilingual Licensed Mental Health Counselor offering virtual therapy for students and young adults across New York, New Jersey, and Massachusetts. Pronouns: They/Them Hello! I provide open-ended psychotherapy to adults of all ages with a wide range of concerns. Informed by psychodynamic & psychoanalytic therapies, I believe in the profound capacity of relationships to heal, transform, and support meaningful growth. I work with older teens and adults who face profound challenges of depression, anxiety, grief & loss, and the long-term effects of childhood (and adult) trauma, as well as those everyday struggles and conflicts of work, relationships, family, life transitions, and other stressors. I am welcoming of people of all backgrounds and identities, and have extensive experience with individuals of diverse identities & marginalized backgrounds including BIPOC, queer, and immigrant communities. Wherever you are in your life’s journey and no matter your reasons for seeking therapy, I strive to foster a safe, compassionate and non-judgmental space where you can feel at home and supported to explore those issues that are most on your mind, as well as work together on troubling and self-defeating behavior patterns.
I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with a degree in Mindfulness-based Transpersonal Counseling from Naropa University, in Boulder, Colorado. Mindfulness informs all aspects of my work, including my emphasis on creating a space of compassion and curiosity in which we can explore, experiment, and journey together. You can't do anything "wrong" in therapy; everything that happens can be mined for wisdom. I have primarily worked with people to address issues related to anxiety, depression, self-concept, and life transitions. I see therapy sessions as a balance between processing and skill-building, in which there is enough open space to explore and also enough direction to come away with concrete action steps to create the desired change. In addition to mindfulness, I have training in dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Internal Family Systems (IFS). I frequently guide my clients in getting to know and work with "parts" of themselves. I bring a trauma-informed approach to all sessions, in which safety, empowerment, and self-compassion are held paramount. For trauma-specific work, I utilize my training in EMDR therapy to provide targeted interventions designed to desensitize and reprocess traumatic experiences in the brain. Above all else, I hold a steadfast hope for the ability of each and every person to heal and grow. It is truly an honor and privilege to join my clients in that journey.
