Coming to therapy can be nerve wracking, my goal as your counselor is to create a safe and non-judgmental environment to support you in your therapy goals. I have a passion for working with clients of diverse backgrounds such as sexual, gender, and ethnic minorities. I have experience working with various mental health diagnoses including anxiety, depression, OCD, PTSD, and other mental health disorders. I have worked with clients within the LGBTQ+ and minority communities for over five years. As a counselor that identifies with multiple minority identities, I understand the importance of finding a counselor that understands your world experiences and lens. I take an eclectic approach to help support unique client needs. I received my master’s degree in counseling psychology at Ball State University with a concentration in rehabilitation counseling. I utilize cognitive-behavioral therapy and interpersonal psychotherapy to help process emotions. I emphasize open communication, setting healthy boundaries, and confidence building. I am both trauma-informed and culturally informed. I find the most crucial part of therapy is the therapeutic relationship. During sessions, I would describe my style as “chill,” supportive, while professional. Humor and light-heartedness, when appropriate, can be therapeutic and beneficial. If this sounds like a style that meets your needs, please do not hesitate to reach out to learn more information. I look forward to connecting with you!

Everyone deserves a safe place to explore their thoughts and feelings. I believe clients are the experts in themselves and I provide a safe space to explore thoughts and feelings without judgment. One request I may ask of clients when we work together is that labels like “right” or “wrong” are strongly discouraged in sessions. Letting go of those labels in session is an important part of creating that safe space. The most common struggles of the people I work with include Borderline Personality Disorder, PTSD, struggles with assertiveness, gray-area substance use, and anger outbursts. The other mindfulness practices can help with managing anxiety, impulsivity, and intrusive thoughts. As your recovery evolves in stages, your treatment will too. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and have been practicing since 2018. My specialties include Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and narrative therapy, as well as other mindfulness practices.

Do you identify as gender diverse (transgender, non-binary, gender queer, etc)? Are currently questioning or discovering your gender and/or needing a referral letter for medical transition steps? Jack Garner, LCSW is a licensed clinical therapist in the states of Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Illinois and is a member of WPATH. Their practice is offered online where they provide individual counseling and coaching as well as referral letters for medical transition steps, such as HRT and surgeries (Note, all WPATH referral letters are provided under the informed consent model - meaning NO gate-keeping practices and it takes just one session to obtain your letter). I am passionate about serving our community and understand what it is like to question your gender, experience dysphoria, and take medical transition steps. If you are looking for a therapist who truly understands you and has 'been there' themselves - I am here for you! Anchor Point Counseling offers a variety of services to meet each client’s varying needs. Counseling is not a one-size-fits-all type of service. Each client will bring with them a unique story and perspective through which they relate and interact with themselves, others, and the world around them. Here at Anchor Point, we want to honor those differences through offering more specialized treatment (EMDR and FLASH), specifically in working with trauma and anxiety disorders. Additionally, Anchor Point has a particular interest in treating educators, student-athletes, and coaches. General counseling is also available.
