Counseling for men who don't want counseling. Theraphe was founded with the distinct purpose to serve men just like you with intentionality and respect. After working with men of all backgrounds through previous crisis and outpatient work, one thing was abundantly clear: We men want better for ourselves and for our families. Yet too often, we do it alone. Therefore, we wanted to build a place where men felt comfortable asking for help. A place, no doubt, where we would want to go. No foo-foey flower patterned couches and no potpourri. No shame in our identity as men. We needed a place where we could navigate our goals with someone who shares our lens and shares our values as men, husbands, and fathers.

Many of the college students I work with are balancing classes, jobs, relationships, and questions about who they are—and that can feel overwhelming. I often help students who are navigating academic stress, identity changes, and family expectations, while also working to feel more confident and handle life’s challenges without burning out. As a Latino and LGBTQ+ therapist, I understand how culture, family, and identity can shape your college experience and sometimes add extra pressure. In our work together, I use proven counseling methods like cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to help you recognize and shift unhelpful thought patterns, and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) to give you practical tools for managing emotions and relationships. I create a safe, welcoming space where your whole self is valued, and where you can explore who you are, challenge old beliefs, and build skills to thrive both in and out of the classroom.
I am a licensed professional counselor (LPC) in Texas who works with young, middle-aged, and senior adults who struggle with anxiety and depression. I studied at Lubbock Christian University to earn a master's in clinical mental health counseling and at Lamar University to earn a master's in education administration. I have experience with cognitive behavioral therapy, cognitive processing therapy, and solution-focused brief therapy, and have been practicing as an LPC for four years.
College can be exciting—and overwhelming at the same time. Many students come to counseling feeling stressed, burned out, unsure of who they are becoming, or anxious about the future. You might be juggling classes, work, relationships, family expectations, and big questions about identity and direction—while feeling like you’re supposed to have it all figured out. I provide a supportive, non-judgmental space where college students and young adults can slow down, process what they’re carrying, and feel genuinely understood. Counseling with me is collaborative, practical, and focused on helping you feel more grounded, confident, and clear as you move forward. I Work With Students Navigating: *Academic stress, burnout, and pressure to perform *Anxiety, overthinking, and constant mental fatigue *Identity exploration (values, purpose, faith, culture, self-worth) *Life transitions (starting college, transferring, graduating, post-grad uncertainty) *Career uncertainty, major decisions, and fear of “choosing wrong” *Relationship challenges (dating, friendships, family dynamics) *Perfectionism, people-pleasing, and imposter syndrome *Feeling lost, stuck, or disconnected from yourself You don’t need to be in crisis to benefit from counseling—many students come simply because they want support during a demanding season of life. My approach is warm, thoughtful, and grounded in evidence-based counseling practices. Sessions are a space where you can talk openly, ask questions, and develop tools that actually help in daily life—whether that’s managing stress, improving boundaries, or making sense of who you’re becoming. If you are a Christian who values faith as part of your life, I also offer Christian counseling upon request. This is always optional and guided by your comfort level.

We offer trauma informed therapy for children, teens, and adults, in-person in South Austin, telehealth available to all Texas residents. I specialize in helping women in their 20s and 30s who are struggling with anxiety in relationships and sex, or those who are processing past sexual trauma or toxic relationships. Many of my clients notice patterns or traits within themselves which are impacting their relationships and intimacy, leaving them feeling disconnected and at a loss for what might help. In addition to my work with adults, I also enjoy working with children and adolescents (ages 3-18), especially those who are neurodivergent or highly sensitive. With a background as a Preschool Teacher, a Registered Behavior Technician working with children on the Autism Spectrum, and as a long-time babysitter, I am able to connect deeply with young people to help them feel understood. My personal experience growing up with undiagnosed ADHD, which manifested as an inability to regulate my emotions, extreme sensitivity, and emotional outbursts, informs this work. I approach this work as an opportunity to nurture my own inner child and offer the support I wish I’d had growing up. I utilize a client-centered, strengths-based approach to play therapy in order to help the children I work with feel safe to express themselves authentically. My approach is compassionate and trauma-informed, integrating Nervous System Regulation, Somatic Experiencing, Attachment Theory, and Trauma-Informed Care to help you rebuild trust in yourself and cultivate healthier relationships. My priority is to create a safe, supportive space where you feel comfortable exploring your emotions and experiences without judgment. In our work together, we’ll explore your past and present, identify patterns, and create a plan for healing.

I support young adults and people in transition—whether you’re starting something new, ending something old, or feeling stuck in between. I also work with clients of all ages and bring a warm, down-to-earth approach grounded in practical tools like CBT and solution-focused therapy. Hello, My name is Heather Allen. The clients with whom I work best are those who are ready to begin working on themselves. It has been a privilege to have worked in the social work field for over 13 years in the state of Texas in various settings that have included long-term care, hospital settings, inpatient hospice, home health, foster and adoption, Alzheimer's and dementia care, private practice and now clinical supervision. I received my bachelor's in social work from Texas Woman's University and my master's in social work from the University of Texas at Arlington. I spent my post-graduate 2-year clinicals preparing to work in private practice and specialize in trauma and serving our veteran population. I am a native Texan who loves being a wife and mother, and I'm an avid nature lover with a passion for animals and for reading! I take the upmost care to provide a warm, caring and judgement-free approach in my treatment. It's daunting to sit with a stranger and discuss painful and sometimes traumatic details, and I strive to provide a safe and comfortable space to every client. I am trained and practiced in using many therapeutic modalities and approaches including Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy, Accelerated Resolution Therapy, Motivational Interviewing and many more. I place great importance on getting to know you with a comprehensive intake and assessment and appropriate diagnosis. A diagnosis isn't meant to be a label, but it is vital to ensuring that you receive the right therapy modality for your needs. There is no one size fits all approach in therapy!

My style of therapy is a mix of focusing on the present moment (what you think, feel, and need during session), getting curious about the past (how your experiences impact you now), and building new skills to get you where you want to be. It’s time to build a loving relationship with yourself. Here’s the good news: you don’t have to do this on your own. Contact me today to get started!
Perhaps one of the hardest decisions in life is to seek help. You are used to handling everything yourself, but you don’t have to do this alone. We all encounter challenges and/or disadvantages at one point in life, and it is easy to feel discouraged and criticize yourself in this process. Although these difficulties can affect you in profound and painful ways, I believe that they are also opportunities to learn about yourself—acknowledge what is not working and find what will work. This journey is quite exhausting for one person, so I aim to become a part of your support system. As a counselor, I hope to empower each individual to make personal choices that will allow them to discover confidence, direction, happiness, peace, and healing. My role as a therapist is to, first and foremost, create a safe space for your stories to be heard and understood. I will listen to your experiences with compassion, warmth, curiosity, hope, respect, and trust. I believe in genuineness and transparency in the therapeutic relationship, so I will communicate directly yet gently. I offer a collaborative and individualized therapeutic process that allows you to accomplish your goals. In other words, my approach to counseling varies based on what is the best fit for each client. I use creative methods to increase self-awareness and self-reflection (e.g. mindfulness, writing, drawing, music, poetry, activities) because I believe each person has a unique medium of expression. Your commitment to change is also monumental in this process because you are the expert on your life. I will be there as a guide to help you uncover your true potential. I hold a Master of Science degree in Counseling from Southern Methodist University. I work with older adolescent and adult individuals who struggle with depression, anxiety, bipolar disorders, personality disorders, interpersonal/relationship issues, OCD, ADHD, grief and loss, trauma/PTSD, LGBTQIA+ related issues, transition and change, anger management, stress management and self-care, social justice issues, and low self-confidence. As an Asian American woman, I celebrate diversity and welcome people from all backgrounds.
